These swatches show the natural/grey blanket fabric before wet finishing and after. Notice the difference in colour, size, and stability. The loom state (before) swatch is more yellow in colour than the finished. The scouring process has removed the spin oils added to the fibre at the spinning mill.

The finished sample is smaller, showing the dimensional loss that occurs during the fulling process. The finished textile is stable ie the threads will not fall out where it has been cut. The finished sample looks fuzzy because fibres have come out of the yarn somewhat obscuring the twill pattern. This nap increases the insulative properties of the cloth.

The finished fabric has more drape, structural integrity, and will keep you warmer than the unfinished web.

Wet finished Blanket Another example of wet finishing is shown in this burgandy and blue blanket. The swatch in the center is unfinished.
